Five Reasons for the Lack of Reviews As of Late

January 11, 2012

1) Disillusioned/disappointed by how many painfully mediocre movies I paid to sit through these past two months. I am starting to lose faith, and January/February is a rough time for a moviegoer to hit that wall.

2) Another year has gone by, marking another year that I didn’t finish my screenplay. Currently devoting a whole lot of time to that front as a result, and the progress has been kickass. Will keep you posted.

3) Tying into that, I just can’t kick this nagging feeling that I should be making movies instead of reviewing movies. Don’t take that as a swan song or anything, but the monkey’s on my back and he’s only getting heavier.

4) Recently discovered Final Fantasy VI, 17 years after everyone else did. It is great, it is distracting.

5) I’m actually getting married in four days to the best gal in the Milky Way, so that’s been keeping me pretty preoccupied. With that being said, it might be a little while ’til I get back into the swing of things, but it’s for an awfully good cause.

Anyway, there ya’ have it. Sorry for being so incognito as of late, but life calls. Keep it real, folks.

I know how you’re feeling about the amount of crappy movies being tossed onto the screen. I don’t think some of these directors realize that making more than a few sequels from one good movie is just overkill, and can ruin a person’s enthusiasm for the first movie. But I’ve recently seen the trailer for Prometheus, and it gave me some hope. 🙂 Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!!

Thanks! And Prometheus does look pretty wild, but even that’s an Alien prequel. Just burned out by Hollywood at the moment and burned out by all the boneheads who keep making movies like The Devil Inside #1 at the box office. Serenity now.

Four days, wow… congratulations sir! And get off the internets ’til after!!! Absolutely with you on the ‘should be making movies’ bit… or at least doing other things.

Can’t wait to see the screenplay when it’s unleashed to the public.

Haha. Thanks! Will keep you posted on the script, comin’ along just fine so far.

That’s exactly the reason why I stopped my movie blog… I would miss your reviews, as this is the only movie blog I read, but I would totally understand if you gave it up. Follow your heart and have a great wedding (night)!

      Awww you…

The more I think about it, the more I think that’s what’s gonna happen one of these days. Gotta do my part to balance out all the crap that keeps getting made and people keep going to see. Thanks for the vote of confidence and the wedding was awesome!

Hey man, congrats on your engagement! It sucks not being able to see a review from you since every single one you do is awesome and hilarious. I hope you get that screenplay going because if it’s anything like how you write, it’s going to be kick-ass! I hope all is well Aiden and congrats once again! Hopefully I get to see another review sooner than later but either way, take your time my dude. We’ll all be waiting.

Thanks, man! You are too freaking kind and will throw a new review up here one of these days, just gotta see a movie worth reviewing.

Thanks! It was incredible and actually didn’t go by fast at all, which is totally contrary to everything I’ve heard, but I ain’t complaining.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding, Aiden! You can’t be faulted for not posting with that kind of big event on the horizon.

Good luck on the screenplay too. I did a lot of that a few years ago, so I understand the amount of work that must go into it.

    And yes, FFVI is dope.

    • February 6, 2012 11:35 am

      Haha. Thanks!

Yeah, these screenplays take a lot longer than you’d think, huh? Awfully satisfying once you get it all down though.

And glad we’re in agreement on FFVI. Right on.

  12. January 15, 2012 2:55 am

Whoa, that’s awesome!! I hope everything with the wedding goes smoothly. Congratulations, Aiden!!!

I’m actually getting married in four days to the best gal in the Milky Way

    …Gina Carano?

In seriousness, congratulations and I hope that the day was everything you both wanted it to be. I know mine was. Enjoy every minute of the honeymoon.

As far as the seasonal cinematic dumping ground– well, yeah. It’s January. These things happen. But if you’re paying for films, turn to iTunes; they have both Kill List and The Innkeepers up as VOD, and they will not disappoint you. Plus, Haywire comes out this week (which, you may have guessed based on the opening line, I have seen already), and next week we get to see Liam Neeson punch wolves. It ain’t all bad! (I hope!)

In the meantime I hope to catch up on some of the award show darlings of 2011 (notably The Artist and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). That’s generally what this phase of the year is good for.

    • January 22, 2012 12:41 am

I was waiting so long for T,T,S,S and found myself disappointed after watching it. You never know what you may get with award films.

    • February 6, 2012 11:42 am

Hahaha. Something tells me Gina’d wear the pants in that relationship.

And it was the best day of my life, brotha’. Couldn’t have gone smoother and still got the honeymoon to look forward to in April. Boomshakalaka.

Do want to see Kill List, do want to see Innkeepers, do want to see Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, do want to see Ghost Rider, do want to see Haywire, do want to see Chronicle, might have to check out The Grey. Got more options than usual this year.

And hope you dig The Artist and Tinker Tailor, those were winners.

  16. January 20, 2012 1:40 pm

Congrats on the marriage, man! I think that is a more than acceptable reason to take a leave of absence. 😀

  17. January 30, 2012 12:55 pm

I don’t blame you, Aiden. I took the entire year off, because I felt the films would suck. I slowly came back to this year’s films. I guess.

    • February 6, 2012 11:57 am

Yeah, think I might follow suit. Would much rather be writing movies than writing about movies these days.
