And the best alien invasion movie is…

March 20, 2011

DISTRICT 9!

Damn, son, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum can’t be happy about this one. Wasn’t too crazy about Wikus and his prawns myself, but hey, maybe it’s about damn time I gave it another go since this won by a freakin’ mile.

So way to go, folks. You done voted good.

RESULTS:
District 9: 12 votes
Independence Day: 5 votes
Close Encounters of the Third Kind: 5 votes
Predator: 7 votes
The Thing: 5 votes (would have been my vote)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (any of ’em): 3 votes
They Live: 3 votes (so awesome)
Dark City: 4 votes (really need to see that again)
Signs: 3 votes
War of the Worlds (either of ’em): 3 votes
Mars Attacks!: 1 vote
Men in Black: 1 vote
Cloverfield: 1 vote
The Day the Earth Stood Still (not the Keanu version): 1 vote
– Other: 1 vote for Alien (yeah, I guess that was an invasion of sorts), 1 vote for Fire in the Sky (need to check that out), and 1 vote for Dude, Where’s My Car? (to each his own…you burnout, you).

I can’t believe people like District 9 that much. It was a fun film, but uneven. The first half of the movie was rather dull. It wasn’t until the big twist that the film got interesting.

More people should see Dark City.

Yeah, I’m on the same page. I liked the premise and I thought the special effects were out of sight, but I just though Wikus was too much of a dickhead for me to care.

And I’m with you on Dark City. Really need to revisit that one myself.

    HELL YEAH!!! LOVE D9!!!

I really loved District 9. The biggest surprise of 2009 for me. Can’t argue with this. Although, how great are The Thing and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers? I voted for The Thing. I flicked on The Day the Earth Stood Still the other night (Keanu version) completely by accident, and watched the last hour or so. What a piece of crap!!!

Yeah, I would have gone with The Thing, too. Really liked the original Body Snatchers and I freakin’ love the version with Donald Sutherland though. And I don’t think I’ll ever get around to that Keanu remake, but the original is out of sight.

I’m a big fan of DISTRICT 9 (despite having similar complaints to James), but I wouldn’t really count in as an alien invasion movie. It’s got aliens in it, but they’re just kind of there (part of what makes it so interesting)

Yeah, it was weird coming up with the movies to include. No real guideline for it, just tried to think of movies that involved aliens on Earth, I guess.

Wahoo!! I forgot to vote but I’d vote for D-9 as well. Can’t wait to see Sharlto and Neill Blomkamp teaming up again for another sci-fi flick, Elysium.

Yeah, that sounds interesting. Looking forward to it even if I wasn’t crazy as the majority was about D9.

District 9 = not invasion movie

  8. March 22, 2011 2:56 pm

Only one vote for The Day the Earth Stood Still? Really? That’s, like, one of the alien invasion movies. District 9 is pretty much impeccable, but I can’t understand the lack of props for Day. Guess next time I should get my ass in gear and vote.

I totally agree, man. Very sad that it only got one vote ’cause it really is an incredible movie that got one awful fucking remake. Man, high time I gave that another watch. Great stuff.

They are not aliens in Fudge 44, they are creatures and I am not sure what kind but that would be a good example of what you’re talking about.

Wow. A whole movie! Might have to watch this one of these days, maybe in preparation for Fudge 45. Thanks for the heads up and thanks for visiting!
