And the best Avenger is…
Folks, I had a post all ready to go last night declaring Tony Stark the victor, but leave it to the good old U.S. of A. to pull off an overnight squeaker. Steve Rogers, man. What a badass.
Apologies for the two-week poll, but thought I’d let this one simmer until the movie actually came out. Still haven’t seen it yet, so don’t ruin anything for me, but we shall discuss this further next week.
Swell voting, folks.
RESULTS:
– Captain America: 13 votes
– Iron Man: 12 votes
– Hulk: 10 votes
– Black Widow: 9 votes (she must freakin’ destroy in that movie, ’cause that seems like a generous amount of votes)
– Thor: 5 votes
– Hawkeye: 3 votes
– Nick Fury: 2 vote
– Vision: 1 vote (always found him kinda weird)
– Beatrix Kiddo: 1 vote (why not?)
– Spider-Man: 1 vote (am I the only one who thinks Spidey should have been subbed in for Hawkeye instead of getting a series reboot to make up for his absence?)
– Dodge: 1 vote (Dodge Avenger, well played)
– Agent Coulson: 1 vote (nice)
Ant Man demands a recount…
And for his movie to be released…
Is Edgar Wright still working on that? I hope so.
He just tweeted a teaser yesterday…
So it looks like he is?
Goddamn, I’m dead tired of superhero movies, but I’d see that in a heartbeat.
After seeing The Avengers, I’d have to say Hulk, but Cap and Iron Man work fine too.
You know, it’s interesting. I’ve been getting tired of superhero movies for a long time, but The Avengers may have turned that around for me on its own. It’s like a tonic for superhero burnout.
Damn, that’s good to hear. I’m very much burned out on the whole thing, but then again, Joss Whedon’s been reviving genres left and right these days. God, that guy rocks. Probably the only real reason I’m anxious to see this.
Personally I think the voters that put Cap in top spot are either patriotic to a fault, or haven’t seen the film. There was definitely potential for this character but he got pushed aside in favour of more screen time for Tony Stark (and RDJ really is playing Tony Stark, the Ironman moments don’t match up), Bruce Banner/Hulk, and the Black Widow. And, yes Aiden, Black Widow kicks serious arse in the film.
On another note I believe the reason the Spidey thing happened the way it did is that the rights are currently owned by another studio (Columbia?) and they are about to revert back to Marvel Studios. Columbia wanted to get another movie out to stymie the chances of Marvel doing their own reboot in the style of their recent Avengers movies. Sam Raimi couldn’t get his act together on Spiderman 4 so they did a reboot themselves. So, yeah, that movie is pure studio-spite-politics…
Hulk was easily my favourite character from Avengers Assemble/The Avengers closely followed by Iron Man and then Cap. To be fair though, I loved all the characters. Surprised that Black Widow got so many votes.. maybe it’s that suit she wears..
The suit didn’t hurt any, but for a character that I thought was gonna be a total throw-away, Black Widow was actually pretty awesome. Girl had some great interrogation scenes and kicked a fair amount of ass to boot.
With you on Hulk though.
