And the best comedy of the past decade is…

June 12, 2011

THE HANGOVER!

Sorry for the two-week poll, folks, but I just had to see if Black Dynamite could make a comeback. As for the winner, I know it’s the top-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time, I know how many people love the hell out of it, and I’m not gonna argue that it’s a funny movie. Then again, it’s probably the last movie I would have voted for. I’ve got my reasons, they’re all there in the parentheses, but I’ll leave it up to you crazy kids to get the debate going.

Swell voting all the same. I love you guys.

RESULTS:
The Hangover: 9 votes
Anchorman: 6 votes (outrageously quotable)
Black Dynamite: 5 votes (everything)
Tropic Thunder: 4 votes (the fake trailers and Tom Cruise)
Mean Girls: 4 votes (best “chick flick” of the past decade)
Wedding Crashers: 3 votes (“People helping people…”)
Superbad: 4 votes (the dream montage where Jonah Hill tries to buy liquor)
Bad Santa: 4 votes (Thurman Murman)
The 40-Year-Old Virgin: 3 votes (best running gag of the past decade)
Shaun of the Dead: 7 votes (the be-all, end-all of horror comedies)
Office Space: 5 votes (The Jump-To-Conclusions Mat)
Zoolander: 2 votes (“Your mistake indeed!”)
Napoleon Dynamite: 2 votes (“How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?”)
Borat: 3 votes (the rodeo)
Team America: World Police: 2 votes (puppet sex)
– Other: 1 vote for Sideways (oh, you wino), 2 votes for Little Miss Sunshine (that dance scene is still freaking brilliant), 1 vote for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (not quite as funny as Terminator: Salvation), 1 vote for Ali G Indahouse (will take your word for it), 1 vote for In Bruges (I gotta see that again), 1 vote for Cedar Rapids (hell yes), 1 vote for Beavis and Butt-head Do America (double hell yes), 1 vote for Hot Fuzz (awesome), 1 vote for Super Troopers (word), and 1 vote for “Too many options for a credible result” (oh, I beg to differ, good sir).

    Who interrupting my kung-fu?

    • June 12, 2011 9:00 pm

Hahaha. “Get outta here! SCRAM! …I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

  2. June 13, 2011 12:11 am

Chalk this one up to it being a recent film. I do enjoy THE HANGOVER, but it’s nowhere near as funny as at least half of the other options

    • June 14, 2011 9:19 am

Agreed, I blame the hype machine. Still a funny movie, but not on the same level as almost all of these.

  3. June 13, 2011 12:18 am

“I love you man” was not included in options…Office Space and 40 Year Old Virgin were the best I.M.O..

  4. June 13, 2011 1:34 am

and no “zombie land” as well…

    • June 13, 2011 7:55 am

Lol. That’s why there’s an “Other” option. Zombieland was definitely one of best thanks to the BM cameo.

  5. June 13, 2011 3:19 am

    “Wedding Crashers” was my vote.

The Hangover was good? But that good? I have to say, I’m a bit surprised Anchorman didn’t beat it to the post, because of the sheer volume of real-life memes it has generated.

Sorry, that first bit should be a statement rather than a question. The Hangover was good.

      • June 14, 2011 9:21 am

Haha, gotcha. Totally agree about Anchorman, way better and way more quotable.

I’m surprised there was no love for Old School, and that I’m the only one that thought of Super Troopers. But I guess that’s just my opinion, and it’s not like all of the movies that made it onto the poll aren’t flipping hilarious.

And it was so hard not to vote for Black Dynamite, but Super Troopers is my favorite comedy of all time.

Damn, dude. All-time? Better than MP and the Holy Grail? Better than Dumb & Dumber?

        Crap.

Ok, I’ll give you Holy Grail. Don’t know how I could forget it. But yeah, I give it a slight (sliiiight) edge over Dumb & Dumber. I think that’s my top 3 though. Maybe blazing Saddles in place of D&D.

Great, now I have to spend all day making my top 3 list. (I’m ok with it)

      • June 14, 2011 9:49 am

Hahaha. What a burden, man. And great call on Blazing Saddles.

      • June 16, 2011 6:40 am

Dumb & Dumber! very dumb but sooooooo funny!

      • June 17, 2011 9:47 am

One of the all-time greats, was even my #1 for a while there. Glad you agree.

  8. June 13, 2011 11:32 am

I watched The Hangover under duress as it is the exact opposite of films I like, but it really made me laugh. It’s just a shame they’re killing it with the sequels

  9. June 13, 2011 9:22 pm

I’m so missing out for not having seen The Hangover! Nah, not really, I have a feeling I wouldn’t love it. I’d have voted on Anchorman.

  10. June 13, 2011 9:43 pm

A little surprised that The Hangover won, actually. I liked it quite a bit, but better than Office Space (my vote), Black Dynamite and Napoleon Dynamite? No way.

    • June 14, 2011 9:24 am

RIght there with ya’, man. Office Space might be in my Top Three on this poll. Definitely better than The Hangover.

  11. June 14, 2011 7:46 am

You literally couldn’t pay me to see this. Unless of course you paid me to see it. Then I would in effect being paid to review it. Not even sure if that could entice me. When will Hollywood leave its trash on the road and out of its movies?

    • June 14, 2011 9:24 am

Haha. Something tells me you’d watch that movie if there was free money involved, but I hear ya’.

  12. June 15, 2011 1:23 am

I think I voted for MEAN GIRLS (or SHAUN OF THE DEAD). The result is SO not fetch!

    • June 15, 2011 10:42 am

Hahaha. Solid votes, man. The way this poll ended up was as un-fetch as they come.

I walked into Tropic Thunder thinking that Tom Cruise had a small cameo. That was the only reason I actually saw it in the theater because at the time I was boycotting Tom Cruise (his Brook Shields fiasco). When I saw him, when I realized who he was, I about died laughing. My long TC drought had come to an end. He was simply hilarious.

    • June 16, 2011 3:35 pm

Hahaha. That’s a beautiful thing. I wasn’t expecting such a big role either, but he had me freakin’ howling. If Tropic Thunder had been all TC and those fake trailers at the beginning, that would have been perfect.

  14. June 17, 2011 1:43 pm

    Whaaaaaaaat.

Don’t get me wrong, The Hangover made me laugh, but it doesn’t endure at all. Compare that to Anchorman or Shaun, two legit classics.

    Stuff unnamed:

    Songs from the Second Floor
    The Temptation of St. Tony
    Kung Fu Hustle
    Dogtooth
    Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

The absence of the last one puzzles me.

    • June 20, 2011 6:31 pm

Yeah, surprised no one said that either. Hilarious movie, same goes for Kung Fu Hustle.

Drop that knowledge!
