And the best Sidney Lumet movie is…
Damn right it is. Would have been my vote as well, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s in my Top Ten, either. Really gotta watch this again some time and review the hell out of it. One of the best scripts ever written.
But then again, if there’s anything to be said about Lumet, it’s that the guy had one truly amazing career behind the camera. Not only that, but the rate at which he was putting out movies was flat-out nuts. Dude was operating at Woody Allen’s pace for a while there, and that, boys and girls, is no easy feat. 12 Angry Men is a hard one to top, but seriously, these are all phenomenal movies (even if I can’t vouch for The Wiz). If you haven’t seen ’em, check ’em out, and you will understand how awesome Lumet will always be.
Good voting, gang.
Results:
– 12 Angry Men: 15 votes
– Serpico: 5 votes
– Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead: 3 votes
– Network: 3 votes
– Dog Day Afternoon: 3 votes
– The Verdict: 1 vote
– Murder on the Orient Express: 1 vote
– Other: 1 vote for Prince of the City (never seen it, probably should).
That it is.
For this poll, I’ve got to go with my man, Malick.
Agreed. On 12 Angry Men, that is.
For some reason, I actually think I’d go with Out of Sight. Then again, it’s high time I saw Thin Red Line again, especially since I just saw Badlands for the first time. So effing good.
Great choice by everyone.
Word up.
It’s hard to go wrong with anything Lumet did. For my money it’s Network or Dog Day Afternoon, but 12 Angry Men can’t be denied.
Hell yeah. Dude had one incredible career and I’m actually surprised that there wasn’t more love for Network or Dog Day. Great stuff, man.
Surprised NETWORK didn’t get more votes. It’s one of the greatest films ever made. But then I didn’t vote in this 🙂
That being said – 12 ANGRY MEN totally rocks and it rocks even more that there are that many people have seen it an love it.
Yeah, I’m totally surprised and overjoyed by all the 12 Angry Men love. It’s probably in my Top Ten, cool to see so many other folks who hold it in such high regard against the likes of Network (which apparently more folks need to see, ’cause I’m right there with ya’ on how good it is).
YES SIR! I’m very excited about these results because I have loved “12 Angry Men” since eighth grade. In fact, I’d go so far as to say the film sparked my love of cinema. I mean, how can a movie that takes place in ONE ROOM be so tense and explosive? Genius, that’s how.
Damn, that’s some serious love there, but I can totally see this being a life-changer. And I know, the one room thing, that’s probably the very reason why this is one of my all-time favorite scripts. Same reason I love GlenGarry Glen Ross so much.
That Sidney Lumet guy has a pretty impressive list of films. I went with 12 Angry Men myself, but I could have easily picked Dog Day Afternoon or Serpico. You also reminded me I need to see Before The Devil Knows Your Dead one of these days soon!
Fo sho’. Hard to pick one amongst this lot, but definitely check out Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. Some straight-up evil shit.
