And the Best Supporting Actress of 2010 is…
February 26, 2011
Geez, was not expecting that one, but then again, she did kick major ass. So long as she doesn’t thank Justin Bieber or anything in her acceptance speech, I’d be right as rain if they gave it to her. Not to shabby for the first big screen performance, huh?
Well, way to go Hailee and good votin’, folks.
RESULTS:
– Hailee Steinfeld: 11 votes
– Melissa Leo: 3 votes
– Amy Adams: 3 votes (think she’d be my vote)
– Helena Bonham Carter: 3 votes
– Mila Kunis: 2 votes
– Jacki Weaver: 1 vote
– Other: 1 vote for Marion Cotillard (definitely the high point of Inception‘s acting department).
Anyone else hear that noise about Melissa Leo starting an online petition for her to win this Oscar? Bizarro stuff, man.

Jacki Weaver for me. Just got back from Animal Kingdom, the most effective drama/thriller I’ve seen since A Prophet. Really brilliant.
Hailee Steinfeld should have been in the Oscars’ Best Actress category for me, although she’d be bested by Jennifer Lawrence in a (my) perfect world…
Mental from Melissa Leo. Mental!
I know, strange behavior from Leo indeed.
Really gotta see Animal Kingdom, huh? Will add that to the queue, asap.
I can see her with the Biebs.
Poor girl…
How were you not expecting this? She’s so good, she should be in the other category.
Haha. Figure that The Fighter’s got this one in the bag is all, but Hailee did rock, no mistake there.
It’s a landslide!
Word. Very surprised.
I hope Leo wins she really do a good job with what she was given, but those FYC ads may knock her down, but you never know.
Yeah, self-promos are bad business, but I had a feeling she was gonna pull that one out all the same.
If the Academy didn’t care enough to put Steinfeld in the right category why they vote for her to win?
Jacki Weaver is one of only two good things in Animal Kingdom.
Good question. Who the fuck knows what goes on with those guys.
And interesting to hear you say that about Animal Kingdom. Is the other good thing Guy Pearce by chance?
yes, he is the other good part of the film – wish he has been in it more.
That was mostly the producers of True Grit that made the Supporting Actress call. They campaigned her that way, and while the role certainly walks a fine line, I can’t disagree with Scott Rudin when he points out that they campaigned her as such because the character really doesn’t have a story arc, unlike lead actor Jeff Bridges. In such, she’s the one that supports Rooster’s transition and story.
Sorry, but that is a shit argument (on Rudin’s part). The whole film is about what Mattie gave up for her thirst of revenge.
I was hoping she would win over Leo, age should never be a factor if her performance merits it. And agree w/ Fitz, she carried the movie, so definitely NOT a ‘supporting’ actor!
Yeah, weird that she got thrown into the Supporting category. Some day she’ll get her due.
Bless whoever had the write-in for Cotillard. But Steinfeld is a good call here.
Haha. Forgot about your thing for Cotillard, she is awesome though.
