And the stupidest nomination of the 2010 Golden Globes is…

January 8, 2011

ALICE IN WONDERLAND FOR BEST COMEDY!

How this got nominated over Get Him to the Greek, I Love You Phillip Morris and Toy Story 3 is beyond me, but then again, this is the Golden Globes we’re talkin’ ’bout, Willis. Textbook dumbassery. Solid voting any way you cut it, folks.

RESULTS:
Alice in Wonderland for Best Comedy: 11 votes
The Tourist for Best Comedy: 6 votes
Love and Other Drugs being nominated for anything: 6 votes
– Angelina Jolie for The Tourist– Best Actress in a Comedy: 5 votes
– Burlesque for Best Musical: 4 votes
– Halle Berry for Frankie and Alice – Best Actress: 1 vote (did anyone even see this?)
– Johnny Depp for The Tourist – Best Actor in a Comedy: 1 vote
– Red for Best Comedy: 0 votes (at least it is a comedy)
– Johnny Depp for Alice in Wonderland – Best Actor in a Comedy: 0 votes
– Other: 1 vote for “HFPA are hacks and I give not a rat’s tuckus who and what they nominate!” (well said, good sir)

GOD, that was an awful movie.

Aww, I like the new Alice in Wonderland. But I’m one of like the six people who do, so I saw this result coming from far away.

This is the problem with the comedy category. Sometimes, as was the case with Happy-Go-Lucky, movies that wouldn’t get nominated otherwise but deserve to get honoured and other times, like this year, nothing is worthy of award let alone nomination.

It’s just strange because there were some legitimately funny movies out there worth getting nominated. Not so sure about musicals, but it’s not worth putting a movie like Burlesque in there just to have a musical nominated at all.

    Hacks, I tell you!!!! HACKS!!!

Well, I voted for Burlesque since I only saw this one and Alice, Alice wasn’t that bad, but I wouldn’t have nominated it I guess… But Burlesque was just bad and it’s obvious that there wasn’t enough musicals for them to nominate.

Yeah, I think that might be the most confusing nomination for me.

    …is this a joke! 😉

Alice in Wonderland is my worst film of the year…though, granted, I haven’t seen any of those other travesties mentioned.

Yeah, I think I’d put it at my #1 Worst, too. Resident Evil is close, but I knew that was gonna suck.

I liked Alice more than most, but it is in no way award worthy.
Things like this are yet another reason why we all need to stop paying any attention to the starfuckers in the HFPA and the dumb-ass awards they hand out.

    • January 10, 2011 1:06 pm

Well said. Any sentence with the word “starfuckers” in it is a sentence well said.

Toy Story 3 was ineligible for Best Picture. I find myself constantly reminding people of that.

    • January 12, 2011 12:46 pm

Why was it ineligible? Only allowed to be in the animated category?

      • January 13, 2011 11:21 pm

Indeed. Which is a shame because there’s really no way for TS3 to flex some muscle on the campaign trail.

Drop that knowledge!
