15 Favorite Directors
So, been tagged by Branden and Sebastian to give my two cents on this latest self-explanatory blog/Facebook meme that all the kids are talkin’ about. Keep in mind that these are in no particular order and just because some may have more “Required Viewings” listed than others doesn’t mean I’m playing favorites, dammit. They’re all seminal in their own ways. These guys are the cream of the crop, still need to get around to reviewing a lot of these movies they’re responsible for, but feel free to check out the ones I’ve covered thus far. – Kai @ The List
– Hatter @ The Dark of the Matinee
– Ruth @ FlixChatter
– Darren @ Fandango Groovers
Honorable mentions to Luc Besson and John Carpenter. Those dudes need career revivals in a big ol’ way. Was this close to putting Sofia Coppola, too. Definitely need some female representation up in here, but waiting to see how her next effort shapes up before I take that leap (at least the trailer’s looking great).
But David Lynch, man. What a badass. Awesome hair.
Awesome choices!!
Must copy you!
hahaha. thanks, man. looking forward to yours.
Lynch has the best hair! Great list…lots of newbies here — or at least many just out the past 10 years or so. Glad to see Ashby and Eastwood here. And Lynch made my list too. Good stuff!
hahaha. a truly breathtaking do if there ever was one. checked out your choice list as well, and i really need to brush up in the old school department. all about the cassavetes nod though. only thing i’ve seen is a woman under the influence, but that was unreal. gena rowlands, man. might be the best performance from an actress i’ve ever seen.
Alright what’s with no Scorsese, Coppola, or Lee? You’ve got a do a better job representing your home town.
lol. yeah, yeah, yeah.
I love Be Kind Rewind too! Yeah! I’m not alone!
hahaha. glad you agree. us fans seem to be few and far between.
Michel Gondry and The Coens are my favorite!
Right on! They’re no joke. Thanks for visiting!
If I ever made a NON-HORROR list of favourite directors it would look a lot like this. Just watched Kurosawa’s THRONE OF BLOOD on the weekend, and like everything else from the man, it was pure brilliance. What can you say about David Lynch that hasn’t been said before? His original, bizarre, violent and mesmerizing images stay with you long after the credits roll. Gilliam, Tarantino, Bong-Ho, Coens, Ashby, Jonze…seriously, get out of my head! I would include Ingmar Bergman and Roman Polanski on my list, but you aren’t going to get any arguments from me on your choices.
hahahaha. thanks! never seen ANYTHING by Bergman, I am ashamed beyond belief, and I really need to brush up on my Polanksi. Man, need to see more Kurosawa too. I’m slackin’ over here. glad you dig it though, all choice dudes imho.
