And the best Bond villain is…

December 2, 2012

SILVA!

Beginner’s luck, or was it the fake teeth? Yeah, I think I’ll go with the latter on this one.

Who cares if he could have killed M in the first ten minutes? Who cares if he could have killed M in the last ten minutes? Those are classic Bond villain moves. And even with 50 years’ worth of competition before him, is it really that surprising that Bardem was this good? No, friend-o. No it was not.

Swell voting, folks! Y’all know your stuff.

RESULTS:
– Silva: 22 votes
– Jaws: 18 votes
– Max Zorin: 10 votes (thoughts on A View to a Kill, folks?)
– Le Chiffre: 10 votes (easily the best torturer of the lot)
– Blofeld: 7 votes
– Scaramanga: 4 votes (that dastardly third nipple…)
– Oddjob: 3 votes (if you’ve ever played GoldenEye, this might make your day)
– Dr. No: 3 votes
– Goldfinger: 3 votes
– 006: 3 votes (really thought he’d get more than that)
– Nick Nack: 1 vote
– Mr. Big: 1 vote (did have a pretty gnarly death scene though)
– Red Grant: 0 votes
– Elektra King: 1 write-in vote (totally forgot about her)
– “Baron Samedi, but to be honest, it’s only ’cause I loved to be him in GoldenEye“: 1 write-in vote (you and me both, man)

Silva is a pretty good result, he’s not my favourite but he’s up there with the best of them. I’m with you that 006 should have had more votes, he would be my pick for the best villain. 🙂

Right? What was up with that? 006 was a fine Bond villain, had no idea there was so little love for him.

I just saw Skyfall today – tough call between Silva and Le Chiffre. Silva managed to blow up half of London and ran rings around MI6. Le Chiffre, on the other hand, was about to perform impromptu surgery on 007 when he was so rudely interrupted.

That is a tough call. The more I think about it, the more I’m leaning towards Le Chiffre actually. Mads Mikkelsen needs more work.

Jaws all the way! Silva was my favourite of the last 5 or 6 though.

Haha. Was glad to see Jaws perform as well as he did, it was a fight to the end. Silva was quite the Bond villain though.

Bardem was crap as a Bond villain! A fab actor, obviously asked to tone down his craft and crank up the histrionics to be a better foil for Bond’s low-flash personality in this film. The only scene where he was menacing was his ‘face reveal’ and that’s thanx to great Sfx. Very disappointed!

Aw, man, sorry to hear you were disappointed! Definitely wasn’t on par with Anton Chigurh, but I thought Bardem had his fair share of flair for a Bond villain. Still, he ain’t my #1. I’d definitely put Le Chiffre ahead of him. But hey, the masses have spoken!

      Thanks for stopping by!

Disagree with Jaws. But the Roger Moore films werent really my thing. Saying that, impressed Zorin got to third. He’s one of my faves, but my mates don’t really like him. Good list.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Jaws for some reason, but I’m with you on Roger Moore. Always glad to see Walken get some love though.

Drop that knowledge!
